Jokai House is a small apartment complex with retail space at the ground floor. It is located in the Hungarian countryside, in a prominent location of a Southern Hungarian town facing a 100-year-old primary school.
The long-neglected site is repurposed and it becomes the new anchor at the end of the street giving new life and new dynamics to the neighborhood.

JOKAI HOUSE

The surrounding landscape gets a facelift too; with its tiered steps facing a big lawn at the street corner it opens up to the public, drawing in people to the shops or just to take a seat and enjoy the fine weather in the summer.
While the building proportions and the material usage respects the local neighborhood in a low-key manner, the contemporary massing composition and facade articulation introduces a fresh take on urban mixed-use developments to the region.
